These are the world’s costliest nuts. The macadamia nut tree is a fast-growing, medium-sized evergreen tree with heavy, dark green foliage that hails from Australia and are grown commercially in a number of subtropical areas, the seeds are often roasted and salted or are used by bakers and chocolatiers in confections and chocolates. Macadamia trees commonly grow to 18 metres (60 feet) high and 15 metres (49 feet) wide. Macadamia nuts have a tough outer shell and inside the shell is nut that is delicate, buttery flavour with smooth texture. Did you know that Macadamia nut’s shell is the hardest shell compared to all other nuts, it needs around 300 pounds of pressure to break open the shell.
Macadamia nuts mature in 6 to 7 months after flowering and must be allowed to ripen on the trees. The Macadamia nuts fall to the ground between March and September.
