Dragon fruit grows on the Hylocereus cactus, whose flowers only open at night. The plant is native to southern Mexico and Central America. It is a beautiful tropical fruit that is sweet and crunchy. This low-maintenance crop requires an initial investment of around Rs four and five lakh per acre. Unlike other fruit crops, dragon fruit starts yielding early. While the first harvest can be done after 15 months, optimal production happens only after three years. The harvest season is between May and September. The average yield per acre is around 5 tonnes
